Signal vs Noise

After taking consistent action towards your vision, expect to start seeing positive results.  And when the results start to pour in, many other opportunities or shiny objects will gravitate towards you.

I will be the first to admit though that too many choices like these can lead to indecisiveness and analysis paralysis!

But, if the universe is sending awesome things your way that you intended, dreamed or thought of – Congratulations!

You are attracting these things into your life with your thoughts, words and actions.

But now you have a whole lotta shit to sift through, don’t you?

So… now what?

Having faced this dilemma repeatedly and witnessing close friends going through it, I find it super helpful to make a critical distinction between noise and signals.

This test is meant to speed up the amount of time it takes to get from confused and unsure to absolutely CLEAR!

Here is how it works:

There are always things in your life that want your attention.

Here are the distinctions:

Noise – The distractions that end up leaking your energy, leading to less alignment, and further away from your ultimate vision.

Signals – These energize you, are aligned and bring you closer to your ultimate vision.

Think radio! Scrolling through the AM/FM dial and hearing static (noise) as you look for a desired station and then… landing on tunes (signal!).

For instance, you might be considering a new business opportunity or want to leave your job or maybe some new gizmo, gadget, or new tool has you all flustered!

Regardless of what it is, this simple distinction can serve as a powerful guide.

It will be especially useful anytime you are stepping outside your comfort zone.

Here are some simple questions you can ask yourself to find out if it’s either noise or signal.

“Is this new (life/career) path just noise or is it calling to me?”

In other words…

“Is this my calling?”

If you are clear and have done some work within, you are self-aware enough to distinguish between the two.

You know yourself enough that the answer you look for is instantaneous.

Your gut tells you the answer

If you are having trouble answering this question, you most likely are not clear about what you want for the future or your plans are simply not your own (read: not authentic or true to yourself).

For those of you who may have your heads in the clouds I can only suggest the one thing that my coach, Philip McKernan has taught me:

“In absence of clarity, take action.”

So whatever it is, just make a decision.

Do this and you will know quickly whether what you’re hearing is noise

…. Or a calling from your soul.

And if it’s a Calling … expect butterflies and goosebumps, baby!

A little nervousness and excitement at the same time!

This is pretty much bang on Oliver. I’m still pulled in multiple directions and battle with these decisions. Luckily, and our man Philip had a large part to play in this, i DO know the difference now. I’ll tell you my biggest dilemma though: When the callings come without promise of income and the noise comes with income. Another great friend helped me see the way out of that one: trust. That’s what faith is, going with the calling even when it’s unclear how it will play out. In other words: in the absence of clarity, take action.

Completely Agree. Whenever there is a decision I need to make the answer is clear…does this answer lead to my overall vision of my life? Yes – Take Action / No – Move onto the next decision!

Pointing out the dilemma of non-paying callings is just – wow! Thank you for contributing that! It is not easy to do the thing that has an unpredictable outcome to your income!
