How to Survive The Zombie Apocalypse of Mediocrity

We’ve become so jaded by the false promises of media advertising, so numbed by the empty ideals touted by our education system and just plain let down by everyone we ‘used to’ look up to. I totally get it. Our eyes meander towards any bright display and it’s epileptic flashes of what we are to believe is beauty, success, happiness and all the colourful and loud stuff in between.

The chase is so addicting and the endless consumption gives us a total buzz. But much like chasing the dragon, that first real high is euphoric. Like walking on a cloud. So good it’s bad. Because with every following ‘hit’ it becomes more and more challenging to re-live that initial high.

If you’re lucky enough you might hit rock bottom. Not something to look forward to. As you sober back up from the fantasyland of force-fed ideas you go through the earth shattering, brain bending and perhaps emotionally traumatizing withdrawal resulting from one single dose of the red pill.

Truth.

If you’ve awoken from the above mentioned zombie-like state of the masses (… and if you’re reading this, I presume that’s a yes) then you are part of the growing movement of individuals who are rediscovering this yearning inside of them. This deep whisper which is calling for something so much more.

More meaning. More significance. More depth. More fulfilment.

Aliveness.

But, how?

Simply, begin. Start with baby steps.

Know yourself. Discover your truth. Take responsibility for your shit. Follow through on your promises. Discover and start living your passion. Honour your commitments. Cultivate and share your gifts. Express yourself authentically. Create a vision for your life. Get to work. Daily.

Be vulnerable. Treat your body like a temple. Rest, relax and play. Surround yourself with compassionate, empathetic, like-minded people. Acknowledge and thank the people who open you up to new ideas, emotions and ways of being. Be in the moment. Give the gift of your presence to the people and moments that deserve and need it most.

Be grateful for the beauty, truth and love that’s already in your life. Inspire others along the way.

Purge. Declutter.

Create        s       p       a       c       e       .

Take no shit from dishonest, narrow-minded people who put zero effort in shaping their own lives and seem to always occupy and puke all over your time, intellect and energy. Let go of excuse makers who refuse to disengage from their hamster wheel of mediocrity.

Stand up for yourself. Know your worth. Stay curious. Seek to make things better.

And most importantly… Never, ever settle.

I know it seems like a lot. It is.

My respectful suggestion is to honour the process and respect the fact that it has taken years and years of programming to get where you are now and it will take tiny steps at first.

So for now, just lean into it. Get started. Choose one thing above.

And, go!
